Starting at 1 p.m. there'll be a bushwalk through a fascinating section of the Brisbane Water NP with Denis as he shows us the stunning array of insect fauna that has always been in the bush at your fingertips. Finish off the day with a BBQ from 5.30 to 6.00 pm (BYO) and then 2 light traps will be set up for the evening which will attract insects of the night for us to view. There's plenty of room to camp on the property and the date is at a low phase of the moon, so light trapping should prove to be interesting.

ANZAC
DAY LONG WEEKEND - OVERNIGHT WALK
- Return to The Pondage. 4WD vehicles needed to drive
out to Newnes (the road is very rough), then we'll be walking out
to The Pondage, camping for two nights and doing a day walk in the
area, or you can just lay around camp and read a good book. This
is classic "pagoda country" and for those who haven't
been to the area before, it's a "must do". Track nearly
non existant, we should arrive at camp in the late afternoon just
in time to see the sunset over Pantony's Crown. Grade SR200. Map:

CREEK
WALK - Morong Deep. A classic Kanangra trip. Although this
trip can be done in 2 days, we'll be setting a leisurely pace this
long weekend. If the weather's good, then camping under the stars
by the river is a must, but minimal shelter will be required just
in case. There's no abseilign, just a couple of climb downs for
those not willing to take the plunge. Wetsuits are not required
as the river is usually quite warm by this time of year. A lilo
is not essential but makes easy work of the otherwise extended swims.
Everyone welcome that can swim and survive the walk out Megalith
Ridge (600m height gain). Grade: SRW600. Maps Shooters Hill, Gurnang,
Yerranderie & Kanangra (walk out only). An adventure not to
be missed! |
